Frequently Asked Questions
Society for Global Citizens
Q
When was Society for Global Citizens (SGC) founded?
A
The Society for Global Citizens was founded in 2009. We realized that there was a growing need to allow youth to connect around the world to foster conversations and provide a platform for youth to actively collaborate towards a greater understanding of each other as we work towards global peace.
Q
Is this a youth site?
A
Youth have frequently been misunderstood. Youth today are more engaged and ready to tackle issues than ever before. Today, we live in a much more globalized world and youth embrace that. Your energy and enthusiasm is what drives this site. We do have some adults around to help provide resources to you and help mentor you around the things that you care about, but this site is for you and your friends.
Q
Does SGC have any religious affiliations or organize lobbying on issues?
A
We do not have any religious affiliations nor do we lobby for issues. This is a platform for you to express yourselves and work together to create positive change.
Q
How can I get involved with SGC?
A
This site is the perfect way to get involved with us. As a virtual community, you have the chance to interact with people from around the world, who have different viewpoints and perspectives.
Q
How is GSC funded?
A
We are largely funded by People to People Ambassador Programs. Using the support of this company, the Society for Global Citizens can build a more vibrant online community energized by youth like you. SGC shares the mission of the People to People Ambassador Programs among a broader, better connected audience, to create a more understanding and peaceful world.
Q
Why do you accept ads?
A
We have some initial financial support, but are looking for ways to generate money in order to make the site better for you. One of the ways we can do that is to accept ads. That is the world in which we live, where the global citizenship community engages the business world in a way to provide us the support to make the world better. We will always reserve the right to accept only those ads from businesses that have some educational, social or cultural value.
